January, 2008 - Former Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Kevin Regan has joined Rubin, Glickman, Steinberg and Gifford of Lansdale
Kevin Regan brings to the practice his training in Criminal Defense matters, Personal Injury, and Family Law.
At the heart of his work is his love for time spent in the courtroom, "I like the action," he says.
In that action, also comes a belief, that by knowing the law cold, you can simplify complex cases. When Regan met colleague Steven Fairlie, also from RGSG, at the Montgomery County courthouse, the two lawyers found that they shared philosophies on courtroom work.
"I kept telling him, 'one of these days we have to try a case together.'" That conversation would eventually lead Fairlie to ask, "Are you interested in a position at RGSG?"
Initially, Regan says he wasn't quite ready to give up his "White Hat" as an ADA since he was looking forward to trying the more complex homicide cases. But Montgomery County's relatively low homicide rate meant that practicing as a prosecutor would not allow the new opportunities he was seeking.
Citing a past drug defendant whom Regan had prosecuted asking him for his new business card, Regan says he hopes to build the practice at RGSG by building on the reputation he earned at the Montgomery County Courthouse for knowing the law.
"There are plenty of defense attorneys out here; but when a defendant gets arrested, and he is represented by a good attorney, people spread the word. I hope to make that kind of good impression on my clients."
In the courtroom, or on a playing field, Regan says he likes to keep moving. Regan grew up in Drexel Hill, graduated from St. Joe's Prep just three blocks down from Temple Law School, where he also graduated, after receiving a degree in history at York College.
While at York College, he played rugby, "a vicious sport," he notes, and also earned a place at the college History Honors Fraternity. "I learned to take care of myself by balancing the sport and the grades."
Now he plays softball-with a vengeance-he's a member of at least seven softball teams, golfs, and runs throughout the year. "The attitude I keep with work is the attitude I've kept throughout my life. I need to keep moving."
Regan worked at the Montgomery County DA's office for three years, and was cross designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Safe Streets Program, which allowed him to prosecute firearms cases in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania as well as the Court of Common Pleas. He served in both the Narcotics and Firearms units, and he prosecuted hundreds of cases, from preliminary hearing through trial, including assaults, felony and misdemeanor narcotics, firearm violations, DUI, robbery, theft and homicide.
At the Temple University Beasley School of Law he graduated with Honors for Outstanding Oral Advocacy in Trial Advocacy. At York College of Pennsylvania, he graduated Cum Laude in History, and was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta honor society in history.

May 22, 2007 - Changing Environmental Law Challenges Even Smaller Businesses
May 9 Radio Show Addresses Policies on Greenhouse Gases and Recent U.S. Supreme Court Decision
The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Massachusetts vs. EPA, may result in significant changes for business, predicts environmental attorney Robert Kinney, who spoke on the subject Wednesday, May 9, on WNPV radio. The program is part of Lansdale law firm of Rubin, Glickman, Steinberg and Gifford's weekly broadcast, "Legally Speaking." The program runs from 11:10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Robert Kinney is available as a feature speaker on the impacts of this decision for smaller to mid-size businesses.
In the landmark Massachusetts vs. EPA decision, issued April 2, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that certain gases that contribute to global warming are pollutants under the Clean Air Act. The court also found that the U.S. government has the authority to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping gases that are produced by motor vehicles. The EPA must now revisit its prior decisions not to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2), which could mean new regulatory controls for a host of businesses and industries.
Tracking legal changes and how they affect daily operations or regulatory requirements can be challenging to smaller businesses, he says, "My approach is to reach out to smaller and mid-size businesses that might have concerns about state and federal policies. I have the opportunity to give them very cost-effective representation on a whole range of environmental issues." In short, he says, "I'm looking to help companies adapt to anticipated changes in law and to help them be more green."
Kinney, who recently joined the Lansdale law firm of Rubin, Glickman, Steinberg and Gifford in Lansdale, was Chief Counsel for the Environment Project of the National Associations of Attorneys General (NAAG) in Washington, D.C. He also worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Mr. Kinney most recently was a solo practitioner in Bucks County. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 2004, he was Chief Counsel for the Environment Project of the National Associations of Attorneys General (NAAG) in Washington, D.C. He also worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the law firm of LeBeouf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae in Washington, D.C.
He is a graduate of California Western School of Law in San Diego, where he was a member of its award-winning trial team. He also holds a B.A. from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Prior to law school, Mr. Kinney worked as a federal lobbyist and staff member on Capitol Hill.
Long active in his community, Mr. Kinney serves as a volunteer member of the Buckingham Township Water and Sewer Commission, coaches youth soccer, and is a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church (Buckingham) Choir.
