MTV star says lesson to be learned from friend's death

In the Pennsylvania drunk driving accident that took the life of MTV's "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn, close friend and co-star Bam Margera is distraught but not surprised. In a recent interview, he opened up about an accident that he was involved in with Dunn 15 years before the accident that took the man's life.

The accident, which occurred in 1996, happened at the same spot as the 2011 accident, according to Margera. In the 1996 incident, in which Dunn was driving, Margera's brother was ejected from the vehicle and thrown 40 feet. Margera said he was lucky to be wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Margera said that Dunn, 34, had a tendency to be careless behind the wheel of a vehicle. He expressed remorse over the fact that he was not with his friend to stop him from getting in a car while he was intoxicated. A passenger in Dunn's car was also killed in the crash.

Margera, who discussed the death over Twitter as many other "Jackass" co-stars did, said that other celebrities, such as Brad Pitt, were sending their condolences to Margera, who lost one of his best friends.

Toward the end of his radio interview, however, Margera urged listeners to learn from his friend's mistake. Drinking and driving puts more than just the drunk driver at risk. Passengers in the vehicle and other motorists are also put in harm's way when a person chooses to drive while intoxicated. Hopefully this tragic accident will encourage Pennsylvania motorists to drive safely at all times.
