In Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, a 32-year-old man has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. The drunk driving accident that killed another driver happened on a recent weekday around 8 a.m.
The 32-year-old man was driving a company vehicle at the time of the accident, according to police. The 32-year-old was traveling on Bailey Creek Road, heading north in the pickup truck. He was in Jackson Township near State Route 549 when he lost control of the pickup, swerved onto the shoulder and overcorrected. His vehicle then passed over the center line and into oncoming traffic, crashing directly into another vehicle.
The woman driving the other car was a 36-year-old from Elmira, New York, where the other driver's job was based. At the time of the accident, she was wearing a seat belt, but was pronounced dead by the Tioga County Deputy Coroner on site. The 32-year-old driver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance at the time. He was also charged with not wearing a seat belt and reckless driving.
After the crash, the 32-year-old was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro. His minor injuries were treated before he was released into the custody of police. He was then sent to Tioga County Jail where he was being detained on $75,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in district court last week.
This is yet another case that shows the dangers of driving drunk. One woman had to pay the ultimate price because another person chose to drive drunk.
