The NFL season will come to a close on Sunday, February 5th. The New York Giants will play the New England Patriots in Indianapolis to determine who will bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Those who cannot attend the game in person will be glued to the television, as the game always generates high ratings. The day has a holiday-like feel, with many people hosting parties for their friends and family.
Unfortunately, Super Bowl Sunday is also a very popular day for law enforcement, as DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints will be increased throughout Pennsylvania. Federal and state advertising campaigns have been running throughout the holiday season notifying drivers that police will be cracking down on those who drink and drive.
Being charged with a DUI can be a confusing time. Many people who have never been in any sort of trouble before may be accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and do not realize the penalties they may be facing. Those convicted of a DUI face high fines and the potential loss of their driving privileges, and possibly even jail time. If the drunk driver gets into an accident and injures another person, these penalties may be enhanced.
Each DUI is different, and the facts of each case will matter when deciding what is best for your situation. The decisions that you make will have a major impact upon your future. A DUI conviction could make it difficult for you to find or keep employment. A conviction can be especially damaging to someone with a CDL, as employers will be reluctant to hire someone with a DUI on their record.
Police will be on the lookout. If you attend a party at a friend's house or local establishment and plan on drinking, have a designated driver in place. The consequences of a DUI can impact nearly every area of your life.
