Woman struck by driver, dies days before her birthday

Recently, a 40-year-old man was charged with homicide. He was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed into another vehicle in Redstone Township, Pennsylvania, late last month. He has since apologized for the drunk driving accident that took the life of a 21-year-old woman.

The woman and her husband were changing a tire on their vehicle when the accident happened. According to reports, both individuals were wearing green safety vests at the time of the accident and emergency flashers on the vehicle were engaged. The crash happened on U.S. Route 40 near Jackson Road.

The 21-year-old from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, died when the drunk driver's vehicle struck her and her husband. Her husband was flown to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian and has since been released. His release came in time for him to attend his wife's funeral.

The 40-year-old driver from Merrittstown, Pennsylvania, who was allegedly drinking, is being held in Fayette County Jail with a $75,000 bond. His trial was recently postponed due to the availability of the accident reconstruction report and blood alcohol content tests.

His criminal history does not include any prior DUI violations, but does include driving without insurance, failure to report an accident to police, speeding, disorderly conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. In the past he has been fined and placed on probation.

Despite the man's apology, he still needs to be held accountable for his actions. The husband could attempt to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the man, in an attempt to win monetary damages to cover medical and funeral expenses.
