Crash in Lower Nazareth Township kills elderly mother and son

The dangers of driving have been underscored again by a recent crash in Lower Nazareth Township, Pennsylvania. The Northampton County coroner was at the scene of the vehicle accident that killed two people and a dog. The crash occurred during the morning of Sept. 5 on Hanoverville Road.

A 67-year-old man from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was driving a station wagon that was involved in the accident. His 88-year-old mother was a passenger. The station wagon and a pickup truck were the only vehicles involved in the crash, and the 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His mother was transported to a hospital where she was also pronounced dead, according to the county coroner. Her death reportedly came 30 minutes later.

According to an official with the Colonial Regional Police, the driver of the pickup truck received minor to moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. The official added that a dog traveling in the pickup truck lost its life.

After the crash occurred, all three people were trapped in their vehicles; extrication was necessary in all three cases. Investigators have not yet released any names of individuals involved in the crash.

Currently, the crash remains under investigation. No indication of fault was made. Major details in the crash have not been released -- all that is known is that the crash was fatal. If fault is placed on the driver of the pickup truck, the loved ones of the deceased may be able to file a wrongful death suit against the driver.
