Bucks county man charged with having child porn on his cell phone

Being accused of a sex crime carries a unique (and forever damaging) social stigma where people may assume you are guilty simply by being charged. The assumptions and notions are even more severe when sex crime charges involve the alleged exploitation of children.

Above theft, drug and violent crimes,  sex crimes carry the thought of a separate villainous horror that no one wants to deal with. Because of this, the defense of people suspected of sex crimes becomes that much more important.

The story of a Bucks County man charged with collecting images of child pornography on his cell phone exemplifies this point. According to a Philly.com report, the man had more than 100 images on his phone. He was promptly arraigned and is being held in police custody.

The images were discovered by his girlfriend, who went through his phone because she suspected that he was cheating on her. She allegedly found emails indicating that "he liked them young."

During a police interview, the man allegedly said that he "should have erased the photos." The man also provided a statement to police that the phone may have had pornographic videos of underage children, but he could not be sure.

The story did not indicate whether the man had legal counsel present during questioning or before the arrest was made. Because of the serious nature of sex crimes, aggresive investigations may trample one's constitutional rights. It is important to have an experienced criminal defense attorney available to protect the rights of the accused.
