5 die in horrific crash

Any accident has the potential of being dangerous and even life-threatening. However, certain collisions are almost guaranteed to have a result that will bring heartache to many. One such collision is when a large vehicle such as an SUV collides with a motorcycle. Those on the bike have no protection from the vehicle, and sadly a car crash between a motorcycle and a car often ends in tragedy. Our Philadelphia readers will be saddened by a recent accident that claimed the life of five people in the southern part of the state.

The accident happened on Oct. 19. Two motorcycles, each with a driver and a passenger, were headed south on Fort Ritchie Access Road when one of the motorcycles was struck by a northbound SUV that had crossed the double line. Upon colliding with the first motorcycle, the SUV spun around and was broadsided by the second motorcycle.

All four of the motorcycle riders, a 67-year-old man, a 53-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, were killed in the accident. A passenger in the SUV, a 68-year-old woman was also killed. Nothing has been reported about the driver of the SUV or the driver's condition. Grief counselors were called to the scene because as one local authorities explained, the accident was one of the worst accidents Washington Township had even experienced.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the accident happened, especially the reason that the SUV went across the double line. Investigators will reconstruct the crime scene and try to put a time frame to the events of the accident. All of the vehicles involved will be thoroughly inspected to see if a mechanical failure on the part of the SUV could have caused the accident. Weather and road conditions will also be considered.

Once the accident investigation is concluded, authorities will determine if anyone should be cited in the accident. Those who were negatively impacted by this accident will also have the right to pursue anyone found at fault for damages. A legal professional can assist anyone in this position with learning his or her rights to damages and helping a person seek the relief to which they are entitled.
