Four years after causing fatal crash, 20-year-old Pennsylvanian arrested for drunk driving

During their teenage years, many Pennsylvanians make decisions that they later regret, such as following ill-advised fashion trends and sneaking out of their parents’ house. Fortunately, these mistakes are often minor and do not prevent people from eventually becoming responsible, productive adults. However, in some cases the mistakes are more serious, and without intervention, they may lead the teenager into a lifetime of criminal activity.

After a 20-year-old Lower Pottsgrove man was arrested for drunk driving, a judge committed him to a juvenile treatment facility. Fortunately, no one was harmed. The judge expressed exasperation at the man, who just four years before had killed two of his peers. The teenager’s blood test results revealed that he had been severely impaired by marijuana at the time of the 2009 accident, which also injured a pregnant woman and three other teenagers. The man was ordered to pay $80,000 to the victims’ family members.

Because the man is not yet 21 years old, he will be held for two months in a juvenile facility. As soon as he turns 21, however, he will face DWI charges in Lawrence County. As an adult, the potential consequences for drunk driving are much more severe, and he may receive a jail sentence.

Hopefully, the man will receive adequate treatment for the physical and emotional problems that have led him to this pattern of behavior. Defense attorneys can help their clients receive the treatment they need. Anyone who is facing charges for a DWI offense may want to seek the help of an attorney.
