Teen charged in head-on crash

A Pennsylvania teenager has been charged in a car accident that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman. The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was driving on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township on April 12 when she allegedly crossed over the yellow lines and into the path of oncoming traffic. Her vehicle hit the older woman's car. The vehicle contained one passenger, a minor. All three people were hospitalized after both drivers had to be pried out of their vehicles by emergency crews.

According to police who investigated the scene, the 19-year-old's car had a speedometer that was stopped at over 70 miles per hour although the speed limit on the road was 55 miles per hour. In addition, there was no evidence that the driver had made an effort to stop prior to impact. The 65-year-old died in the hospital later that day, and an autopsy confirmed the death was due to injuries suffered in the accident. The other driver also suffered extensive injuries.

The teenage driver in the incident faces vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and other charges. She has been arraigned and released on $50,000 non-secured bond. Reports did not indicate when her court date will be.

For the families of those who have been killed due to another person's negligence, the time following a car accident may be one of the most difficult financially. Families may struggle with the costs of burial, medical expenses and the loss of their loved one's income. It may be helpful for families to work with lawyers who have experience in wrongful death suits.
