Drunk driving and car accident injuries in Pennsylvania

Every year, many people are seriously injured or killed in accidents involving drunk and impaired drivers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, 10,322 people lost their lives in accidents involving impaired drivers in 2012. A person dies in a drunk driving accident every 51 minutes, with nearly 30 U.S. lives lost each day.

Pennsylvania drunk driving accidents

While most Pennsylvania residents know that it is dangerous to drink and drive, they may not know just how dangerous driving after consuming alcohol can really be. In fact, in 2012, more than 10,000 people lost their lives in drunk driving accidents across the nation.

Police monitor Pennsylvania drivers for alcohol

Drunk driving is an extremely serious yet avoidable threat on the road. The effect of intoxication on motor skills and the ability to operate heavy machinery are easy to understand, at least when you are sober. You would not expect people to take for granted the need for complete coherence behind the wheel, once they are granted the responsibility of a driver’s license.

Police say former officer was driving 100 mph in fatal DUI crash

Philadelphia residents may recall news of a deadly September crash involving a former police sergeant. The officer is accused of being intoxicated and driving more than 100 miles per hour when his vehicle hit a van on State Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The van driver, a 55-year-old father of four, suffered traumatic head injuries and died three days after the collision.

Pennsylvania dram shop liability case settles for $6.6 million

Pennsylvania law allows for restaurants or bars that over-serve a patron to be held liable for injuries or deaths that result from that intoxicated patron's reckless behavior. This area of the law is known as dram shop liability. Property owners who host parties and over-serve guests can also be held liable if an intoxicated guest goes on to injure someone else.

Head-on crash surprisingly causes no life-threatening injuries

The dangers of driving are often underscored by an accident. But when a head-on crash occurs, most people would assume the injuries suffered are severe or fatal. A recent collision involving an 18-year-old male from Pennsylvania was just such an accident. Two of the three cars involved crashed into each other head-on. Fortunately, no one was killed. Authorities reported that none of the seven people involved had life-threatening injuries.
