Traffic flagger injured by dump truck at construction site

On April 25, a 43-year-old woman from Coplay, Pennsylvania, north of Philadelphia, was injured by a dump truck while she was working as a traffic flagger at a construction site. Some early reports indicated that she had been injured by a passing driver. This, according to information from the state police, was not the case.

Workplace injuries were down in 2010

Advocates for workers' rights believe that workers should not have to worry about getting injured while on the job. Even though many agree with this idea, a workplace injury is hard to avoid completely. Residents of Philadelphia may know this as well as residents of any other city in the nation.

Amazon's Pennsylvania facility now has lower injury rate

Recently, Internet powerhouse Amazon.com was under fire for the working environment at its fulfillment center in Pennsylvania. The reportedly unsafe working environment, which included high temperatures and pressure to work at a high speed, was fixed by the company recently, and its workplace injury rate is now reportedly lower than those of other fulfillment centers across the nation.

More than 4,500 fatal workplace accidents reported in 2010

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of fatal workplace accidents from 2009 to 2010 went down very slightly. In 2010, 4,547 individuals lost their lives to a fatal workplace injury. In 2009, the number was barely higher at 4,551.
