Alleged drunk driver charged in Pennsylvania train accident

In a recent accident that illustrates the dangers of negligent driving, a commuter train that travels through Philadelphia's west suburbs crashed into a car in Haverford Township. Police suspect the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. The vehicle accident left 25 train passengers injured.

According to reports, a 29-year-old driver drove onto a right-of-way, where his vehicle became stuck near the train tracks. The crash occurred between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on a recent Thursday. A spokeswoman with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority said that the light-rail train, which was on the Norristown High Speed Line, was making its first trip of the day with at least 25 passengers on board.

Authorities said that the 29-year-old driver has been charged with 26 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of risking a catastrophe. He was also accused of driving under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol content was not released by authorities. Reports did not indicate whether or not the driver was injured.

Fortunately, none of the 25 individuals injured on the suburban passenger train was hurt severely. However, many car accident victims are not so lucky. Often, serious injuries or even death occur as a result of negligent driving. Hopefully this accident will serve as a stark reminder to Pennsylvania drivers of the dangers of drunk driving. Not only do drunk drivers put themselves at risk, they also put everyone else on the road in danger.
