Pennsylvania crash sees drivers airlifted to hospitals

A near-head-on collision in Trappe, Pennsylvania, just northwest of Philadelphia, left at least four people injured. The mid-December crash happened on Route 113 near South Elementary School. Pennsylvania State Police believe that one of the drivers may have been driving drunk.

According to authorities, a 20-year-old female from Trappe was heading north on Route 113 in a blue Honda Civic. Three passengers were in her vehicle at the time of the alleged drunk driving accident: a 14-year-old male from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, an 18-year-old male from Royersford, Pennsylvania, and a 16-year-old male from Trappe.

The police report says the driver attempted to make an unsafe lane change near a hill and entered the southbound lane of traffic to pass the vehicle in front of her. As she did so, a southbound vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man from Collegeville was approaching, which then crashed into the Honda.

The 20-year-old female was taken to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital by helicopter, and the 27-year-old male was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital. The three passengers in the Civic were transported to different hospitals for evaluation of potential injuries. The severity of the injuries was not disclosed.

Reports show that one of the passengers had attempted to leave the scene for reasons unknown, but was caught before successfully fleeing. Charges against the 20-year-old driver are currently pending.

Unfortunately, underage drinking and driving remains a problem in Pennsylvania. And in this case, the driver's recklessness not only endangered her own life, but that of her passengers and another driver. She could potentially be held liable for everyone's injuries.
