Three injured in North Philly shootings

Philadelphia police are looking for two shooters after a drive-by shooting in North Philadelphia have left three people injured. According to a Daily News report, the shooting occurred just before 4:00 on Monday afternoon. Among the people shot were a 29 year-old man who was shot twice in the elbow, a 24-year-old woman who was grazed on the thigh, and a 29-year-old pregnant woman who was shot five times.

The victims, including the pregnant woman, were taken to local hospital and treated. The woman was initially listed in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable condition after the baby appeared unharmed.

Investigators found at least 15 shell casings and believe another shooter (who was on foot) was involved. They are uncertain if the wounded were actual  targets or what may have prompted the shootings. Neighbors report that the injured pregnant woman was unlikely the target, as she is known for raising her children and does not have any running disputes with people in the area. They believe that whoever she was with may have been targeted.

The story is important as a new ATF chief takes over the Philadelphia division and is charged with reducing gun crimes, which are commonly linked to drug crimes

For those who are charged with weapons crimes (or drug crimes) the penalties can be severe. Not only can a person face state based crimes, but federal crimes as well.

In the meantime, police are searching for a silver vehicle. No other distinctive descriptions were given.
