New psychedelic drug hitting Pennsylvania streets

Being charged with a drug crime can be a serious offense, especially depending upon the exact drug and the circumstances of a given situation. Ensuring a fair drug crime defense may not seem fair to some people but is indeed fair and ensured under the law as all citizens are due such a privilege and right. Charges can range from drug possession to drug trafficking and may include illegal substances or even a prescription drug.

New drugs can also be developed and utilized for many reasons. A recent news article reported on a new drug that is hitting the streets among Pennsylvania youth that has chemical similarities to bath salts but may not be classified as a controlled or illegal substance. The drug’s official chemical name is Phenethylamine Psychedelic or 251-NBOMe. Street names include the N-bomb and Smiles.

People taking this drug can experience seizure, brain bleeding or death if the quantities are large enough. In smaller doses, symptoms of paranoid behavior, violence or out-of-control feelings or thoughts can last anywhere from six to 10 hours. Four states have reported deaths from the N-bomb and three states have outlawed it. There was no mention on whether or not the drug is currently considered to be legal for use in Pennsylvania but authorities are urged to be on the lookout for it.

There are many nuances that can be involved in a drug charge and the legality of a drug or similarity of its chemical nature to other substances can be a factor. Anyone who is charged with a drug crime may be well served to talk to a criminal defense attorney.
