Pennsylvania not as tough as other states on drunk driving

With drunk driving, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Not only does the amount of intoxication recorded on a breathing machine or blood test matter, but if you have been convicted of DUI previously it will also have an impact on your case. However, not every state is the same. For example, if you live in Montgomery, you might be surprised to hear about a recent comparison of the drunk driving laws in Pennsylvania with other states.

In certain states, such as Delaware, those who have been convicted of DUI for the first time could end up in prison. In Pennsylvania, a Tier 1 offender (someone whose blood alcohol content was between 0.08 and 0.099 percent) will face lower fines, be placed on probation, and required to perform community service and attend a safety program.

Although the laws in Pennsylvania might seem more lenient when compared to other states, there are still severe consequences to DUI charges, especially for those with higher blood alcohol levels and previous convictions. Also, if someone has ever been convicted of DUI in another state, the charges may actually cross over as a result of a national database. This sharing of information can have an impact on the severity of consequences for DUI charges in Pennsylvania.

If you are ever charged with driving under the influence, it is a good idea to understand the various penalties that are imposed on those convicted of drunk driving. Some of these penalties include jail time, license suspension and court fines. Someone facing these charges may want to consider the benefits of contacting an experienced legal professional.
