Car crash kills local benefactor, driver charged with DWI

A recent car crash resulted in the death of an area benefactor when he and his wife were rear-ended by a Mack truck.  The 67-year-old wife was seriously injured in the crash and remains hospitalized.

Since causing this horrendous car crash, the driver of the truck, a Philadelphia man, has been charged with driving while intoxicated and death by auto.  He is being held on $300,000 bond.  In addition he has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless driving and failure to observe a red traffic signal. Prosecutors are still working on the case and the defendant has yet to make a statement.

The couple was stopped behind another vehicle when the Mack truck pushed their vehicle into the car in front of them. The person in that car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Police have said that there were several witnesses to this accident and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim was very well liked within the community. The 67-year-old benefactor and bicycle enthusiast was the founder of an annual bicycle event that benefited local charities and raised awareness in the region. His wife will undoubtedly be dealing with not only pain and suffering from her own injuries but also from sustaining the very serious and sudden loss of her husband.

If you or a loved one is involved in an unfortunate situation such as a car accident, it is important to contact an experienced attorney who can help protect your rights and alleviate some of your concerns.
