1 dead after Pennsylvania crash

A three-vehicle crash in Franklin County on Aug. 15 caused one person to die and five others to be transported to area hospitals. The cause of the car crash was still under investigation at the time of the report.

Pennsylvania State Police reported that a 63-year-old man was heading east on a highway when his vehicle started to drift into the center turn lane. Eventually, it drifted into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by a 51-year-old man. Then, the eastbound vehicle hit a second westbound vehicle being driven by a 33-year-old woman.

The driver of the first vehicle that was hit went into cardiac arrest after the accident; he was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. The other drivers were taken by helicopter to another hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Three minors who were passengers in the woman's vehicle were also taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The accident caused the highway to be closed down while authorities investigated the accident scene.

When someone is injured in an accident that is caused by another driver, he or she may decide to file a personal injury lawsuit to seek compensation for any damages suffered as a result of the accident. Damages may include medical expenses for treatment of injuries suffered, lost wages while the person recovers or attends medical appointments, property damage and pain and suffering. If a loved one dies because of another driver's actions, surviving family members may wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit in order to also seek compensation for funeral costs and loss of companionship.
