Drunk driving and car accident injuries in Pennsylvania

Every year, many people are seriously injured or killed in accidents involving drunk and impaired drivers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, 10,322 people lost their lives in accidents involving impaired drivers in 2012. A person dies in a drunk driving accident every 51 minutes, with nearly 30 U.S. lives lost each day.

Annually, the costs associated with drunk driving crashes averages more than $59 billion. Younger drivers have a greater statistical likelihood of being involved in drunk driving collisions. Of those with blood alcohol concentrations greater than .08 percent, nearly a third involved drivers between the ages of 21 and 24. Around 239 children younger under the age of 14 died in drunk driving collisions in 2012, a number accounting for 20 percent of all child traffic fatalities for the year.

People who are seriously injured in a drunk driving accident may be permanently disabled, suffering a significant loss to their quality of life. Seriously injured victims of drunk drivers may want to consider filing personal injury civil lawsuits in order to recover damages.

Damages may be available to compensate for all of the losses, both economic and noneconomic, they suffered at the hands of the drunk driver. Injured victims may thus benefit by seeking a consultation with a personal injury attorney. An attorney may be able to identify all appropriate claims for inclusion in the filed civil complaint. He or she may then advocate on behalf of the plaintiff in order to maximize their recovery.
