Texting beats drinking among hazards for teen drivers

Teens in Pennsylvania need to be cautioned about texting while driving and not just the standard admonishment to not drink and drive. Although intoxication remains a killer of teenagers behind the wheel, at approximately 2,000 deaths per year, the distraction caused by texting on mobile devices now contributes to about 3,000 car accident deaths among teenagers every year.

NTSB says collision avoidance systems should be standard

Pennsylvania drivers would be able to purchase new cars with collision avoidance systems installed at no extra price if the National Transportation Safety Board had its way, but despite recommending these systems for several years, only four models manufactured in 2014 included such a system. The NTSB says that the devices would reduce the severity of about 80 percent of rear-end accidents that kill about 1,700 people annually and injure around half a million.

Car hit a Pennsylvania bus head-on injuring 4

Video footage from a public transportation bus will be evaluated for clues to the cause of a head-on collision with a passenger vehicle on the morning of May 1 in Pittsburgh. The driver of the passenger vehicle, the bus driver and two bus passengers suffered injuries, according to officials.

Pennsylvania accidents can be fatal

A fatal car crash occurred on Interstate 81 near the Maryland Border in Franklin County on April 5. According to officials, three people were killed in the incident. The southbound lanes of I-81 had to be closed down for about three hours following the accident.

Pennsylvania man pleads guilty in drunk driving case

A 64-year-old man pleaded guilty to a charge of homicide by vehicle and will be sentenced to three to six years in jail on May 20. The 31-year-old victim was killed on in February 2013 as he was driving northbound on Route 28 in O'Hara at about 12:30 a.m. According to police, the man who caused the crash was driving southbound in the northbound lane that the victim had been driving in.

Drunk driving suspected in Pennsylvania crash that killed 2 teens

A 25-year-old man is being detained in the Chester County Prison on $75,000 bail after being in a car accident that left two Downingtown teens dead. He reportedly smelled of alcohol according to the Exton Police when they arrested him after the fatal crash on Route 100 at North Ship Road.
