If you own real estate, read on.
We are sharing important information regarding a free service available through your County’s Recorder of Deeds Office. This service provides protection against the fraudulent transfer of your real estate to another party without your knowledge.
If you own real estate in Montgomery or Bucks Counties, it is easy to set up your own account:
- Montgomery County: Visit the Public Access System and follow the instructions to create your account.
- Bucks County: Visit the Fraud Alert Portal to sign up.
This service is FREE and provides an invaluable opportunity to protect one of your most valuable assets. Both counties will provide you with an alert if fraud is attempted against your property.
We recommend taking the time to register your Montgomery or Bucks County properties today. If you live in another Pennsylvania county, check your county’s Recorder of Deeds Office online to see if a similar service is available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the county fraud alert service really free?
Yes. Both the Montgomery County Public Access System and the Bucks County Fraud Alert Portal are free services offered directly by the County Recorder of Deeds.
What happens if someone tries to fraudulently transfer my property?
If you’re registered, the county will send you an alert as soon as a document affecting your property is recorded, giving you an early opportunity to investigate and respond.
Does this service work if I live outside Montgomery or Bucks County?
Check your own county’s Recorder of Deeds Office online, since many Pennsylvania counties offer a similar free fraud alert service.
Does registering for a fraud alert replace title insurance?
No. A fraud alert simply notifies you when a document is recorded against your property; it doesn’t insure against title defects or automatically undo a fraudulent transfer.
Why should I register for a property fraud alert?
Early notice of a fraudulent transfer gives you the best chance to act quickly and protect what is likely one of your most valuable assets.
