According to authorities, two people suffered injuries in a Philadelphia accident involving multiple vehicles and pedestrians. The July 8 incident reportedly occurred near the intersection of 7th Street and Lehigh Avenue at about 4 p.m.

Authorities reported that a vehicle rear-ended a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority bus before striking a number of additional vehicles and a group of pedestrians. Reportedly, police suspect that alcohol might have been a factor in the event. Yet, it was not clear in the immediate aftermath of the incident whether police filed any charges in connection with the crash.

Authorities reported that none of the occupants of the vehicles involved in the accident suffered injuries. However, emergency personnel transported the driver of the bus to Temple University Hospital for observation, reportedly. Furthermore, two pedestrians suffered injuries and received treatment at St. Christopher’s, a hospital for children. Authorities reported that officials expect the two young pedestrians to survive their injuries.

If further investigation into this case corroborates the police’s suspicion that alcohol was a contributory factor in the incident, then the drunk driver may face not just criminal charges but also civil action. When people suffer injuries as a result of a drunk-driving accident, they may pursue a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver in civil court, seeking restitution for economic damages related to their injuries.

That is because many accident-related injuries require lengthy hospital stays, intensive medical care and long-term rehabilitation, all of which can be costly. If successful, claimants in a personal injury lawsuit may be awarded financial compensation for hospital bills, medical expenses and the costs associated with rehabilitation and therapy.
