Norristown is a major borough in Montgomery County, PA and serves as the county seat. Norristown has a total population of around 34,300 people and a total geographic area of roughly 3.6 square miles. Norristown was named the county seat of Montgomery County when the county was formed in 1784. The borough was not incorporated until later in 1812, when it had a population of just 500 residents; however, the population grew rapidly during subsequent years. In fact, prior to WWII, Norristown was actually the most-populous borough in the entire state. Now, the borough’s population ranks fourth among Montgomery County municipalities and second among all boroughs in Pennsylvania.
