inheritance tax in pennsylvaniaBy: Jay C. Glickman, Esquire

People frequently ask “How much is PA Inheritance Tax?” It is not one rate for all. It differs, depending upon the relationship and situation. The tax rates are as follow:

1. No tax between spouses;
2. Four and one-half percent (4-l/2%) for lineal descendants;
3. Twelve percent (12%) for siblings;
4. Fifteen percent (15%) for all others; and
5. No tax if bequest is to a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

People who are living together and are not married may want to consider getting married. Inheritance tax is only one factor to be considered in making such a decision.
